Day Camp 2017

As always, day camp was an absolute blast this summer. We ran two weeks of the day camp program with the help of staff people from the area and Camp Tilikum. Our theme, Let’s Go Adventuring, showed campers how they can find adventure wherever they go, and the best adventure is letting God take the lead. Campers found adventure at the beach, in the forest, in the garden, and on the archery range. Each day we used trail talk time to listen to a Bible story then ask what it can teach us about God and people. We learned about Moses and the burning bush, how God used angels in chariots to protect Elisha and his servant, when Jesus healed the paralyzed man lowered through the roof, the crucifixion and resurrection, and the early church in Acts.

Thanks to help from wonderful volunteers, the Maple tree in the upper field is now home to an amazing tree house! Kids (and adults too) can climb up a new ladder inside the tree to step up onto a sturdy platform surrounded by protective rails. Campers would have stayed in it for hours if we allowed it.

To celebrate the last day of camp and send the campers off in style, we built a water slide. It makes all the effort of building a water slide worth it just to see campers’ faces light up when they come sliding and splashing all the way down and then pop up and run to the top for another go.

It is a privilege to be a part of God’s work in campers’ and staff members’ lives. We are incredibly grateful for having a place and time to play outdoors with campers and show them Jesus’ love as we explore God’s creation together. We are in awe of how God furthers His kingdom when we hold the gifts He has given us with open hands.

We thank God for His presence and providence during this year’s day camp and the many memories campers took away from their week at the Cove. We also anticipate the joy of praying, planning, and preparing for next year’s day camp program.
