Anacortes

The hospitable town of Anacortes has a lovely historic downtown with plenty of delicious places to eat and activities to do. Readers will enjoy perusing the shelves of Pelican Bay Books, a used bookstore complete with a coffee shop. A local Farmers Market features fresh produce, live music, and artisan products such as mead. Saturdays 9 am to 2 pm, May through October. For guests interested in boating, the harbor is centrally located, and there are many boat tour options including whale watching.

Just outside of downtown, Cap Sante, a look out point, provides a great view of the north western end of Fidalgo.

Washington Park, on the western end of the island, offers

day use picnic areas, 220 acres with a plethora of trails,

and a recreational boat launch. For the less physically

mobile, it also has a 2.2 mile paved scenic loop open to

vehicle traffic.
